Dec 28, 2016 · A tech added a primary partition on my C drive, calling it System D, which is taking a large amount of memory from my C drive. I have tried to expand C, didn't work. If I empty this partition and just delete it, what happens to the space D drive used? 1. Remove the drive letter. Go into Disk Management Right click on the drive and click "Change the drive letter". Select D: and click Remove. 2. Hide the drive in Windows Explorer. There is a registry tweak to hide the drive just in Windows Explorer. I'll have to look online and figure out what it is. The drive letter C can only be used for the drive Windows is installed on. If you multi boot operating systems, the currently running Windows will always show its drive letter as C . If you remove the drive letter from a volume, partition, or disk, it will no longer be available to show as a drive in File Explorer "This PC".
